SusyJack Valentine’s Day Cards

Brianne

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways with SusyJack Valentine’s Day Cards ($3 each). These adorable love notes come in four cute designs like “Lucky in Love,” “You’re Tweet,” and simply “Love.” Each card is made of 100% post-consumer recycled paper but SusyJack also aims to save materials, energy, time, and production and shipping resources as well as use recycled packaging for shipping and office needs. While you’re stocking up on cards, scoop up their adorable arrow clothespins … perfect for hanging your card in your love’s closet, on the bathroom mirror, or in the fridge (surprise!).

Waste paper (office paper, newspaper and other types) that has served its intended purpose and has been separated from solid waste to be recycled into new paper. The greater the percentage of post-consumer material in the paper, the less resource intensive it is because it is closer to true "closed-loop" recycling.

Back to School with Greenista Guest Jessica

Visiting Author

This time of year, back- to- school is on the minds of many Greenista Mamas. So what better way to send your child to school in eco-style than with a conversation piece like the cute Eco Zoo backpacks. At less than $30 a pop, these backpacks are not only affordable, but also are non-toxic. It’s made with natural cotton canvas and rope, sustainable wood, recycled plastic, non-toxic dyes, and most importantly, it’s PVC-free. After being tested on the roughest toddlers, this backpack will surely be a pleaser not only for its longevity but also for the thoughtful crafting that went into making it super organized with compartments galore. You can find the Eco Zoo Backpacks in various pet shapes such as pandas, piggies, and puppies and other useful (and eco) back-to-school items at Eco Gear Products.

PVC stands for an acronym for Polyvinyl chloride, which is a plastic that contains chlorine. These plastics are often combined with lead and cadium as a stabilizer which creates high levels of toxicity. Halting your child’s exposure to PVC will help keep their minds and bodies sharp and focused.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Ties Made of Recycled Cassettes

Neha Shivani

While we haven’t covered men’s fashion on this website much, we’re definitely paying attention to the style of the GQ set. We’re especially envious of men for being able to accessorize with ties without looking “costume-y”. So you can imagine our seething envy when we discovered  these neckties: music to my ears….literally! The fabric is made of 50% recycled cassette and is audible when you run a tape head over it. These limited edition ties are the product of collaborators Sonic Fabric and New York designer Julio Cesar. Even if you can’t afford the $90 price tag on the ties,  entertain yourself by watching the fabric in action on youtube.

Under My Umbrella

Neha Shivani

Looking to match that Halloween Costume? How about this umbrella from Totes? Sure it’s a bit obvious, but isn’t that the point? The frame is made of 70% recycled steel and aluminum and the canopy is made of 100% recycled PET bottles. The handle is made of bamboo and the strap from waxed hemp: all earth friendly materials. There are a variety colors to choose from, but my favorite is the more subtle green.
