Whether you know someone who has been through it or you yourself have beat it, breast cancer doesn’t pick favorites, both men and women can be diagnosed. The month of October rings in the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take this month to educate and empower yourself and your fellow Greenistas to take charge of their own breast health by practicing regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, scheduling regular visits and annual mammograms, and knowing the facts. There are plenty of ways to get involved this month … you can take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in your very own city; you don’t have to be a runner, just volunteering makes a difference. You can even make it a girls’ day out and grab some friends and help support the cause. Plus, don’t forget to save the lid on your daily Yoplait yogurt. For each pink lid mailed in by customers, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Komen with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000 up to $1.6 million. So use this month to start educating yourself, after all, you only get one pair! Take care of them the best you can.

Finding well-priced environmentally-friendly children’s shoes isn’t always an easy feat. Enter Simple Shoes – a company with a zero impact ethos, aiming to be 100% sustainable, and taking many forward steps to get there. They also produce very well made shoes for babies and children up to the age of 12.
Their latest designs are up there with the most fashion forward footwear designers only Simple Shoes has the edge. Looks and comfort might be a draw, but the big appeal is what these shoes are made from: A combination of recycled carpet padding, hemp, eco-certified leather & suede, recycled car tires, recycled wool, organic cotton, and 100% post-consumer recycled paper to name a few … pretty cool!
The shoes are super cute and according to my six-year-old who’s wearing the satire elastic, they are: “Very comfy, they’re so comfy I want to wear them all day, everyday and never take them off”. He’s a pretty reliable source since we live in New York City and are out and on-the-go all day giving his little feet a work out. This fall he’s getting the Boys’ Carport Elastic slip-on sneaker.
My one-year-old baby also has a pair – she’s wearing the Infant Weegee, and since she isn’t structuring sentences just yet I have to go off how happy she looks wearing her shoes and the fact that they STAY ON!!! That’s always a plus in baby footwear.
Their new Fall/Winter collection for babies and children showcases some fabulous designs incorporating recycled wool from wool sweaters found in thrift stores around the world. Simple Shoes absolutely rock, and in case you weren’t aware, they come in parent sizes too. Simple Shoes will see that you tread lightly and take a step forward in the conscious shopper direction.
Each year approximately 290 million tires are discarded by Americans. The good news: Most old tires are used as fuel, while others are ground up and recycled into commercial and residential flooring, rubber mulch, rubber-modified asphalt for roads and athletic tracks, sports mats, civil engineering projects, rubber lumber, stall mats for horses, roof pads, shower tiles, and truck bed mats, and more recently, the fashion industry is recognizing the importance of repurposing used tires.
Light exercise during the day also can help soon-to-be-moms get some needed shut eye when its time for lights out.

PVC stands for an acronym for Polyvinyl chloride, which is a plastic that contains chlorine. These plastics are often combined with lead and cadium as a stabilizer which creates high levels of toxicity. Halting your child’s exposure to PVC will help keep their minds and bodies sharp and focused.
Nicely put. My sister lisa pointed me to your story and I wanted to express that it was a damn good read. Takk!
