Want to add a little cutesy to your baby’s room without going overboard? Grab some Darling Clementine pillows ($36) and prints ($46). They are adorable enough for babies to tots and can even grace your home, not just the nursery, when baby is old enough. The pillows come in cool shades like coral, navy, yellow, brown, and ice blue … no over-the-top pastels here. Pick from a cat, elephant, fox, or panda in a cushy pillow or wood block print. Did we mention they are eco too? The prints are made on plywood from sustainable harvested sources and the pillows have a 100% organic cotton shell.

Although the sustainable forestry definition is vague, sustainable wood basically means that the trees and land where taken care of in such a manner that the forest will thrive for years from come. They only take what they need and leave the rest undisturbed.

These crafts are great for the winter season, not just the holidays.
If you decided to ditch the Christmas tree this year, you can still make your home smell like the holidays. By using seasonal goodies like cranberries, cinnamon sticks, cloves, oranges, herbs, pine cones, and bits of a friend’s tree, you can get in the holiday spirit. Try out these DIY holiday-scented projects.
Have guests coming over? Simmer water with cinnamon sticks, orange peels, cloves, and cranberries in a pot on low. The sweet aromatic scent will spruce up the whole house.
Feel like getting crafty with the kids? Try dipping pine cones in scented soy wax. Turn them into ornaments or just place in a decorative bowl. Or make pomanders out of oranges and cloves. Just stick a push pin in the orange and then place a clove in the hole. It’ll smell great for weeks.
Wanna make a DIY air freshener? Steal your friend’s Christmas tree stump and a few branches (or ask your local Christmas tree seller). Place the stump in a bowl with water covering half way up the stump. Add in a few tiny stems or some rosemary and place on your heater. The heater will warm the water and heat the stump for a fresh pine scent.

Approximately 30-35 million living Fir trees are cut down in the US alone every year. By making your home smell nice sans a Christmas tree, you’re also helping the environment.
Forgive us while we preach, but us Greenista Girls have Vaska on the brain and we’re not keeping it to ourselves. This self-dubbed Herbatergent ($10/48 oz.) uses herbs and botanicals to do the cleaning, instead of traditional toxic laundry chemicals. Vaska was developed by a clothing designer so you know it’s great for your duds (really, we tried it) and made from plant-based surfactants, vegetable conditioner, filtered water, and lavender extract. It’s also hypo-allergenic, biodegradable, recyclable, reduces static, safe for gray water systems, not tested on animals, softens fabrics, safe on colors, extends fabric life, and is great for sensitive skin and babies, too. You can also scoop up the fabric softener, spot remover, and oxygen bleach while you’re at it.

Organic cotton and polyester are hypoallergenic, meaning they don't harbor the particles in the air that can make it hard to breathe. So grab a set of organic cotton tablecloths, we know just where you can find them … wink, wink.

Decorating your home with eco finds doesn’t have to be expensive … just look in your backyard or even better, at the beach! Not just for coastal living anymore, beach-inspired looks give your home the laid-back scenery that’s just right for summer and for remembering those warmer vacation days. Go green and unique at the same time by collecting seashells … you’ll have a blast searching for certain colors and shapes. So what exactly can you do with these shells? You can place shells around a frame or mirror, put some shells in a shadow box, keep them in a decorative bowl in the bathroom, attach them to lamp or a back splash, use them as decorative drawer pulls, and you can even use larger ones as a paper weight or to hold items like soap, paper clips, or jewelry. The possibilities are endless. Using shells to decorate allows you to create your own custom look while keeping your home eco-friendly.
