Don’t forget to send your kid out with a reusable trick or treat candy tote.

Halloween Week: Organic Candy

Whether you’re 6 or 66, candy is always the best part of Halloween. Unfortunately, most conventional brands are filled with chemical colors, artificial flavors, GMOs, and corn syrup. And if the ingredients aren’t grown organically, that means yucky pesticides, too. So this year, give out healthy, organic candy and sweets that are worlds better for kids (and adults) and still taste great. And do the kid in us a favor by skipping handing out fruit … no one likes it.

Yummy Earth organic candy is free of artificial and chemical flavors and colors and comes in lollipops, candy drops, and our fave, gummy worms and bears.

Candy Tree Organic Cherry Laces are organic, wheat- and gluten-free licorice whips. Yum!

Endangered Species Organic Milk Chocolate Bug Bites are organic, gluten-free, non-GMO chocolate. Plus, your purchase supports the endangered species.

Newman’s Own Organics Chocolate Cups come in 5 organic varieties – caramel in light and dark chocolate, peppermint with dark chocolate, and peanut butter in light and dark.

When High Fructose Corn Syrup is ingested, it travels straight to the liver which turns the sugary liquid into fat, and unlike other carbohydrates HFCS does not cause the pancreas to produce insulin; which acts as a hunger quenching signal to the brain. So we get stuck in a vicious cycle, eating food that gets immediately stored as fat and never feeling full.

  1. Thanks for mentioning our Organic Chocolate Bug Bites, Greenista! Organic, ethically traded chocolate is the only option for me this Halloween.

I love your Greenista Tip too! Good old Martha Stewart insired me to whip up an easy-as-pie reusable loot bag. Only took me 30-minutes and it’s as cute as can be. http://www.marthastewart.com/article/pillowcase-trick-or-treat-bags
