As a sleep deprived mom, I need my coffee! I’m in complete zombie mode until that first sip of iced latte. Absentmindedly, I gulp it down and toss the cup in the garbage. Now I can start my day…
But wait! How did it not occur to me that I’m producing so much waste with all the plastic cups, lids, and straws I go through? If I bought a coffee every day (I haven’t reached that point just yet), that’s 1,095 pieces of plastic I’m adding to the landfills every year!
Browsing through Google, I came across an old article from The Daily Green suggesting I find a great reusable alternative. What an easy solution!
If you’re an avid Starbucks fan, they’ve created reusable cups that look just like their plastic counterparts. Unfortunately, they’re difficult to find unless you happen to come across them at your local store.
Or you can avoid plastic by scouting out stainless steel. I prefer a straw, and Thermos happens to have a kid’s 12 ounce Foogo Straw Bottle ($15.99) that seems anything but baby-like.
Fortunately, it’s not difficult to find a variety of thermoses, travel mugs, and cups ranging in all shapes and sizes. Whether you’re a modest drinker or a true caffeine addict, you can satiate that craving while eliminating the waste!
